In this age of Star Wars, TV fans have been blessed with a wide array of content set in a galaxy far, far away. From live-action series to shorts and animated adventures, there’s something for everyone. With so much content now available, and even more on the way, it can be difficult to figure out what to watch. To make it easier, we’ve ranked every Star Wars TV series from worst to best.
- LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures
The least celebrated of the Star Wars series is the only one to take place between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The Freemaker Adventures follows the journeys of the Freemaker family as they traverse the galaxy doing freelance repair work. The series stands out for its clever humor and excellently designed characters, but unfortunately, it lacks the intensity and excitement of other Star Wars series. It’s a fun enough show, but it’s far from essential viewing.
- Star Wars: Droids
The 1985 animated series Droids follows the adventures of C-3PO and R2-D2 before they met up with Luke Skywalker. Although it’s visually interesting and has good voice acting, it’s not quite as coherent or submersive as other Star Wars fare. The series also suffers from outdated animation and an overall feeling of irrelevance.
- Star Wars Resistance
Released in 2018, Star Wars Resistance takes place prior to the events of The Force Awakens. The simpler, kid-friendly animation makes it a fun and diverting watch, but it also feels much more episodic and lightweight than other Star Wars series. It’s a decent enough show, but its re-watch value isn’t quite as high as it could be.
- Star Wars: The Clone Wars
The Clone Wars is widely regarded as one of the best TV series to come out of the Star Wars universe. Set during the conflict between the Separatists and the Republic (as depicted in the prequel trilogy), the show explores the moral complexities of warfare and introduces new characters amidst familiar faces. It also features some incredible animation and inspiring storytelling.
- Star Wars Rebels
Rebels follows a group of heroes from a Rebel cell as they fight against the Empire across the galaxy. The series was praised for its detailed art style and strong writing, with characters that were compelling and fleshed out. Rebels stands out for its connections to the larger Star Wars mythology and its willingness to explore darker aspects of the galaxy far, far away.
- Star Wars: The Bad Batch
The most recent addition to the Star Wars TV catalog is a spinoff of the Clone Wars. The Bad Batch follows a small group of genetically modified clones as they find their place in a galaxy struggling to cope with the former clone-led Republic’s fall. The series has been praised for its visuals and dialogue, but it’s still too early to tell whether it will truly stand the test of time.
- Star Wars: The Mandalorian
Without a doubt, The Mandalorian is the highest-value addition to the Star Wars franchise in recent years. The show follows the titular bounty hunter as he travels to futuristic criminal hubs, runs into Force-sensitive children and even gets help from Baby Yoda. With stunning visuals, a powerful sense of adventure and great chemistry between its characters, The Mandalorian is must-watch viewing for any Star Wars fan.
Star Wars has an incredible selection of TV series to choose from, ranging from the silly LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures to the emotionally gripping The Mandalorian. Despite their differences, each series is an enjoyable and worthwhile addition to the canon – no matter where it sits on the rankings.
