Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to Feature Different Universes

The upcoming movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse promises to be an action packed ride that will see multiple universes and characters from the Spider-Man series coming together. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has become a go-to source of superhero entertainment, Sony has been developing their own unique series of Spider-Man related films. The introduction of Miles Morales in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse created an entire multiverse that writers and filmmakers are now able to draw from and use in the upcoming movie.

What to Expect with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

The first thing fans of Spider-Man can expect is a variety of different looks. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was announced as a movie by Sony at the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con and is set to take place in multiple dimensions of the Spider-Man multiverse. This means multiple Spider-Men, with various looks and abilities, will be showing up in the movie.

The Concept of the Spider-Verse

The concept of the Spider-Verse is a popular one amongst comic book fans. In comics, multiple Spider-Men from either alternate or different universes can come together as one. The Spider-Verse allows for a range of stories that all take place in the same universe. This makes for interesting stories and team-ups that were previously unimaginable.

Moreover, the concept of the Spider-Verse allows characters to have different backstories and motivations that can add new perspectives to storylines, without entirely discarding characters with the same name. It also allows Sony to expand the Spider-Man cinematic universe and explore new stories without taking away from the MCU, much like Marvel did with their Netflix series.

Who Will Be Featured in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been confirmed to feature three Spider-Men from three different universes: Miles Morales (Voiced by Shameik Moore) from the Into the Spider-Verse universe, Peter Parker (Voiced by Jake Johnson) from the original Spider-Man movie universe, and Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman (Voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) from the Marvel comics universe. It has also been confirmed that Nicolas Cage will voice an iteration of Spider-Man, as well.

Miles Morales

Miles Morales is an Afro-Latino teen from Brooklyn, New York. He was the featured protagonist in the 2018 animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and was created by comic writing duo Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli. Miles was the protagonist of the film, as well as the leader of a team of alternate Spider-Men from various universes.

In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miles is expected to fulfill the same role, leading a team of Spider-people and fighting to save the multiverse from destruction by the hands of the Sinister Six. Since Miles Morales is the newest addition to the Spider-Verse, it is expected he will be the focus for the movie. He is expected to be the one to bring together all of the different Spideys in order to save the multiverse from destruction.

Peter Parker

Peter Parker, the original Spider-Man, will be featured prominently in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. He was first seen in the 2002 movie Spider-Man and later portrayed in Tobey McGuire’s three movies. He is the most recognizable face in the Spider-Verse and is expected to have a significant role in the upcoming movie.

Peter Parker was a successful college student whose life changed after he was bitten by a radioactive spider. He eventually used his newfound powers to fight crime, stop villains, and protect the innocent. He has become the most recognizable face in the Spider-Verse, and it is expected that he will be an integral part of the movie.

Despite his popularity and his longevity in the series, Peter Parker is not expected to be the central figure in the film. This is due to his age and the fact that there are already two other Spider-Men who have been featured in movies, and Miles Morales who has been widely praised.

Spider-Woman/Gwen Stacy

Gwen Stacy, also known as Spider-Woman, is expected to join the lineup of characters in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. In the comics, Gwen was a major character and Peter Parker’s love interest.

In the movie universe, Gwen was a major character in the movie The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but she is expected to take on a much larger role in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Gwen will be portrayed as Spider-Woman, and she is expected to join the fight against the Sinister Six.

Gwen is expected to be one of the main characters in the movie, alongside Miles and Peter. It is rumored that she may have some sort of relationship with Miles, though this remains to be seen. Gwen is expected to bring a unique perspective to the film, as she is not a traditional Spider-Man character.

Nicolas Cage – Spider-Man Noir

Nicolas Cage will be voicing a version of Spider-Man in the upcoming movie. He will be playing Spider-Man Noir, a hardboiled detective version of Spider-Man who hails from an alternate universe.

Spider-Man Noir is an iteration of Spider-Man from the comics that was first introduced in 2009, and gained his own comic book series in 2019. He is a noir-styled character in a 1930s-styled universe where he uses hardboiled detective skills to fight evil.

Spider-Man Noir is expected to have a major role in the movie, as he is part of the main cast alongside Miles, Peter, and Gwen. He is expected to be the leader of a vigilante group hunting down villains and saving the world. He is set to bring his unique style to the movie, and is sure to be a highlight.

Other Characters

As well as the main four Spider-Men and Spider-Woman, it is expected that some other characters will be appearing in the movie. These characters are expected to be primary villains, allies, and supporting cast members of different universes.

Villains:

The Sinister Six, a group of super villains in the Spider-Verse, will be featured in the movie. It is rumored that Doctor Octopus, The Vulture, Venom, and Mysterio will all be present. It is unknown if the other two members of the Sinister Six will be present in the movie as well.

Allies:

Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker’s love interest and a beloved character in the comics, is expected to be a supporting character. She will be portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld, and her role in the movie is unclear. Aunt May, the mother of Peter Parker, is also expected to be in the movie and will be played by Lily Tomlin.

Other allies expected to appear in the movie are Spider-Gwen, a female version of Spider-Woman from an alternate universe, and Kingpin, the classic Spider-Man villain turned ally.

Supporting Cast:

Two noteworthy supporting characters are Miles’ parents, Jefferson Davis and Rio Morales. They are expected to be a integral part of the plot and add depth to Miles’ character.

Other supporting characters in the movie include various Spider-People from different universes, such as Spider-Ham, Peni Parker and SP//DR, Noir Spider-Woman, and the Japanese Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse promises to be an exciting movie with a unique premise. It will explore the multiverse of Spider-Man in a way that has never been done before, bringing together multiple versions of Spider-Man and teaming them up against classic Spider-Man villains. With a mix of familiar faces and new characters, it will be an exciting ride and a brand new experience for every Spider-Man fan.
